It was decidedly a boring day, Maron thought as she went about her usual Sunday morning activities. It was like most weekend mornings; rise, eat, do chores, and lounge around. She felt perfectly content to just lean back into the couch as she flipped channels randomly.

Her mother did not feel the same.

With a single command, Maron was sent off of her comfortable seat and on her way to the front door to get some fresh air, as her mother had so dearly thought she needed. It was as she was passing the window next to the door that she found a reason to neglect her mother’s order.

“Mom, there’s a raccoon in front of our door.”

Her mother looked up from her knitting with a raised eyebrow, but set her project down upon the expression on Maron’s face. She made her way to where her daughter stood staring out the window and a quiet gasp of astonishment escaped from her. “It’s staring at our door… isn’t it?” she asked her voice just above a whisper.

Maron had the time to wonder whether her mother was talking in a hushed voice so as to not scare the raccoon or because she was in such awe. She shrugged mentally and decided that she didn’t care for the answer.

There was presently something of more interest to her, and it was staring at her front door with a loopy grin on its face. At least it looked like a grin, of which if it was, was definitely loopy.

She had to wonder if it was alright, when she noticed the traces of berries on the raccoon’s face. “Is it drunk off of berries?” Maron pondered out loud.

As if to prove just that, the raccoon slowly turned around. Its gait reminded her of a drunken man and she watched with amusement as it ambled off.

She soon laughed as she saw exactly the way it was moving. The raccoon’s back legs appeared to be moving just fine at their swift speed, but it was the front legs that were the major source of amusement for her. They seemed to be dragging and the entire image of the raccoon running off with its face practically in the ground was too much for her to handle.

Maron was soon on the floor holding her sides as gales of laughter burst from her. Her mother stayed standing as she watched the raccoon stumble away. She soon looked down at her daughter and gave a quiet chuckle. “That raccoon will be regretting those berries in the morning,” she said grinning.

“Yeah, I’ll bet,” Maron agreed looking out the window. She grinned as well and found it amusing that her Sunday morning turned out to be not so boring after all. The only thing she regretted was that she hadn’t gotten a picture of the incident.

But, perhaps if she was lucky, the raccoon would eat the berries again. Then her often boring day would become more interesting than before.

She could only hope.

I am so glad to not be suffering from writer's block anymore~

So this story was inspired by a story told to me by a friend about how her mom saw a raccoon standing in front of the door. It did indeed look drunk and did walk away with it's face practically dragging.

I hope this story amused you as much her story amused me.
